How the day went

Travel on the day from the Portsmouth area proved to be challenging, however, all overcame any issues and made the parade. Travel was also awkward for Sue Wood, who, rather than miss the day, actually drove to  central London, she did arrive a little later than most, but, well done for getting there. Big thank to Railway networks to London who provided free return travel on the day. Big thanks to London Poppy Cabs who again this year, provided Cabs from all London Major Transport Hubs to Trafalgar Square area. The weather was also on our side with probably the warmest day I have experienced in my 11 years of attending.

We did have 29 registered to march, however, as we all grow a wee bit older, those around us also get older, which, unfortunately meant that in the days leading up to the event, 3 members dropped out, 1 at about 0730 that morning. Obviously, priorities are always to families, they have been there for us when we needed them, so absolutely understandable that, those who regrettably couldn’t make the day were not there for the right reasons.

Our 50th Anniversary seen the RNPTBA group coincidentally have 7 members on Parade who have been in the RNPTBA since it was formed.(photo attached) Jimmy Green (Led), Terry Skilbeck, Sarnie Wedge, Martyn Webb, John Mohamed, Harry Pimblett and John Hardman (handed over the wreath. They formed the front row for us in recognition of their continued support to the RNPTBA.

The parade went well although at times, fortunately not on video, we did seem to struggle with keeping in step: I think ill get them all in next year for some’run and march’ practice. Lol.
We were joined at lunch by at least 14 guests, not all eating. Lunch was excellent as was the opportunity to have a beer and a catch up.
Thank you’s went out to Our Families and friends for their support. Members for making it to the event and to The Clarence, who really do allow me to communicate directly right up to the event.
Thank you was also given to the RNPTBA for your continued support of attendees marching. THANK YOU!!
Absent Friends was excellently presented by Duncan Roberts. Names of those we have lost over the last 12 months were named were LPT GARY (GINGE) NELSON 1 of 22 sailors killed on-board HMS ARDENT on 21st May 1982 in the Falklands Conflict and LPT TONY PARTRIDGE killed on 14th October 1991 while serving in The Falklands in a tragic accident. A candle was lit in Remembrance.
As is usually the way, the noise in our private room clearly reflects the banter and comradery that is going on. All guests really enjoyed the day too.
Hopefully we will continue to attend with these sort of numbers or a few more marching. It was my 10th year planning out attendance and it meant as much to me as the first time. Thank you for allowing me to do this honourable role for the RNPTBA.
